Tips and Hints - Sleeves and Adapters

Rotec® products are manufactured using the latest manufacturing and production processes. The materials used are subjected to constant quality control procedures carried out at our facilities. In order to utilize the product properties of rotec® sleeves in the most efficient manner and to increase the longevity of your sleeves, you should adhere to the following recommendations. In case of questions or technical problems, please consult with your rotec customer service or your sales representative.

Air Pressure
The air pressure, when measured at the air cylinder, should be between 6 and 8 bar (87-116 psi). The air volume should not drop below 12 liters per second (0.42 cubic ft/sec.). Please ensure that the air can pass unhindered, i.e. no kinks or damages to the hose. Unnecessarily long or branched supply lines also reduce the air pressure drastically. The air supply, as well as the cylinder surfaces, should be free of moisture, oils, lubricants and inks. Check from time to time to make sure the air outlet holes are not blocked.

Maintenance and Care
Oils, lubricants, inks and sticky back-tape residue should be removed as quickly as possible from the sleeve to maintain the sleeve’s surface properties over the long term. For this purpose, we recommend using our plate/sleeve cleaning system, Enviroflex, with its associated pad. Your rotec customer service or your sales representative will gladly assist you in selecting the correct Enviroflex products for your needs. Other suitable cleaning solvents are Ethylene, Acetate, Acetone, Isopropanol and Isopar C. These cleaning solvents should be used in concentrations less than 25%. Please observe our separately published care instructions for conductive sleeves with Ω - Surface Technology. Stronger residue can be
removed with a soft nylon brush. Lubricant or oil-containing solvents should not be used as they negatively affect the surface properties. Let the sleeve air dry for about 30 minutes after cleaning to allow the solvents to evaporate completely. Finally, never treat the sleeves with acids, alkaline solutions, salt solutions or with any objects that may scratch the surface.

Mounting
Oils and lubricants, inks and sticky-tape residuals affect the adhesiveness of the sticky tape. For rotec® sleeves with hard Blue Light and compressible Print Pro® surfaces we recommend using a plastic rake (e.g. 3M) to aid the mounting of the tape in a bubble-free manner. Next the plate must be mounted bubble-free on top of the adhesive tape. We recommend a soft plastic roller (e.g., Kimoto). Exposed surfaces of the sleeve can be protected effectively with PVC/PE – adhesive tape. In situations where edge sealer is used, never apply it directly on the sleeve. Apply the edge sealer on the adhesive tape only! Cutting processes can also damage the surface. Therefore, please use a aluminum ruler, available from rotec®. Adjust the gap between the adhesive tape and the pressure plate by a minimum of 30° in order to avoid the plate edge from pulling up.

Demounting
Pull the plate away from the sleeve evenly and slowly. Do not use excessive force as this will damage the plate. Remove the tape by slowly pulling it back from the corner at an angle and pull off in one piece, then remove any residual tape adhesive immediately (see Maintenance and care section).

Storage
If you do not use the rotec® storage system, please observe the following points:

1 in principle, sleeves should be stored individually

2 sleeves should never be stacked one on top of the other

3 sleeves stored vertically should be secured to avoid accidents

4 applying weight and continuous loads may affect the T.I.R. (Total indicator reading) of the sleeve

5 high humidity at elevated temperatures (tropical climate) can affect the lifespan of the sleeve

6 quoted external diameter is valid only when assessed using DIN 50014 (23° C / 73 Degrees Fahrenheit and 50% humidity)
